We live in a throw away culture – one that chases perfection and sees brokenness as equal to worthlessness. The Japanese art of Kintsugi highlights beauty in imperfection, honors history, and accepts the inevitably of change. It embodies the Zen ideals of Wabi Sabi helping us to cultivate respect for humility, vulnerability and impermanence. This workshop will provide some background on the culture and philosophy behind this symbolic art form. The teachers will guide you through several brief meditations reflecting Wabi Sabi philosophy. Participants will be instructed in creating a unique piece of art out of a broken ceramic vessel they can take home to gift or to admire. Personal Kintsugi kits (up to 8 uses) are provided with the cost of the workshop. Participants must bring in their own broken vessel – we encourage you to bring something meaningful to you or that brings you aesthetic pleasure. Space is limited and pre-registration is required by the deadline so we can order your kit. No refunds will be provided after the deadline. This class is in person only due to the hands on nature of the activity.
