The Mindful Haiku: 3 Easy Lines to Raise your Awareness and Appreciate the World Around You
with Cathan Kabrelian, CMT-200

ONLINE

May 22 (Saturday)
at 2:00 pm (GMT-05:00)

Class length
120 minutes

Location
Online via Zoom

Join Cathan Kabrelian, CMT-200, mindfulness teacher and closet poet, in a mindful haiku reading and composing extravaganza! Weather permitting, we will gather outside, communing with nature, listening to some of the most famous haiku by Japanese poet Matsuo Basho of the Edo Period, and using the inspiration of the natural surroundings to create haiku of your own.

Basho left city life to wander the countryside, seeking inspiration for his poetry. He would often sit for hours under a tree or beside a creek, just listening, being, noticing. His awareness of the world in any given moment contributed to his ability to pay attention to small details that most would miss, thereby enhancing his experience of living. This workshop will offer guidance in using mindfulness to strengthen the awareness of your surroundings, increase the noticing of minute details, and integrate these discoveries with your creativity and your life.

Wear shoes suitable for walking and bring a portable chair or blanket to sit on, perhaps some water or tea to drink, a journal or notebook to write in, and a writing utensil. We will wear masks (as this can be a busy public park) and maintain 6' physical distance according to health guidelines at the time of the class.
