Class length
90 minutes

Location
Online via Zoom

In the Zen Peacemaker tradition, bearing witness is an important mindfulness practice that involves embracing all that we encounter with an open heart and mind. Zen teacher Jules Shuzen Harris explained that it “enables us to see clearly the entire web of causes and conditions that create suffering, and to take effective action to improve people’s lives.“ Join us for 90-minutes of mindful dialogue and practices through which we will do our best to see clearly, as author Umair Haque described, “with the eyes of those who are harmed, within the context of history, and with an eye toward what may come”.

Upcoming Offerings:

  • Monday 9/20/2021 from 7-8:30 pm: In this session Julia Grimm, LMLP and Tracy Ochester, PsyD will guide a reflection upon the exhibition of unprecedented importance that many of us have already, or are planning to experience, right here in Kansas City at Union Station, Auschwitz - Not Long Ago, Not Far Away. We will engage in some practices that can help us to bear witness to the “largest documented state sanctioned mass murder in human history” so that we might help “ensure not a single one of us ever stands by to let the seeds of hatred and apathy grow again." Together we’ll explore ways in which mindfulness might help us learn from our mistakes, transform grief into engagement, and contribute to a more inclusive and compassionate world.
