Compassion for Couples (CfC) is a weekend workshop designed to help us meet ourselves and our partner with greater awareness and compassion. CfC builds on the skills developed in the Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) program and moves deeper into compassion between partners. Utilizing the skills of mindfulness and compassion, this program teaches how to build a strong and healthy foundation for relationships, and provides skills to help navigate the difficulties that arise within us and between us. While prior experience with MSC is helpful, it is not required.

Sponsored by Self Compassion KC and lovingly facilitated by MAM, this program is designed for committed couples of all types who are looking to deepen their compassion practice in service of strengthening a healthy relationship that supports partners in actualizing their dreams. It is not meant to replace couples therapy, although compassion skills can be therapeutic. Partners who attend together and will learn to:

  • Be more present with each other
  • Identify shared values
  • Build a base of warmth, security and connection
  • Communicate with kindness and compassion
  • Comfort yourself and your partner
  • Skillfully relate to your partner in times of difficulty
  • Gain a greater understanding of yourself, your partner, and shared relational patterns
Michelle Becker, LMFT and Pittman McGehee, PhD lead this 3-day workshop at beautiful and serene Unity Village near Lee’s Summit, MO. Couples have the option to stay at the recently renovated hotel on site, which is conveniently located within a short driving distance from a variety of shops and restaurants. Participants can make room reservations through the hotel & conference center. The workshop begins after dinner at 7:00 pm on Friday night and ends at 5:00 pm on Sunday. This retreat intentionally allows plenty of free time.  You and your partner are encouraged to walk the beautiful grounds, savor a romantic dinner, or just enjoy quiet togetherness stargazing.
