Research demonstrates that mindfulness can enhance creativity through promoting psychological flexibility, enhancing spontaneity, and making space for insight. During this one hour online class, artist Pam Hausner will guide you in learning to set aside self-judgment, foster self-trust, and express yourself wholeheartedly through the practice of mindful drawing. Multiple drawing practices will be offered to guide the participant into greater awareness and compassion. The act of drawing naturally incorporates many types of learning for the mindfulness practitioner. Many people feel they can’t draw well and damaging self-talk can surface. For some people, drawing may even hold painful memories (if they’ve been criticized, etc.). We can also get attached to a specific outcome—an end product—thinking that each drawing should be better than the last. Our practices for this class will include making marks with no planned outcome, simply enjoying the movement of it, and opening to compassion.

What you will need: materials for re-use or upcycling such as used paper, old envelopes, packing paper, cardboard, etc. to draw on. Drawing utensils can include pens, colored pencils, crayons, markers, gel pens, watercolor markers, paints, etc.
