Join artist and mindfulness teacher Pam Hausner for an online 90-minute creative practice that opens with a guided meditation, using wisdom questions for deeper insight. After reflection you will be invited to create a visual journal spread of your present day experience in responding to change. This practice integrates the SoulPages method of visual journaling with mindfulness practice for meaningful connection to your inner strength.

Fee: $20 (members receive a 20% discount by using discount code MEMBERS20 at checkout)

You will want to have the following materials ready for this practice:

  • An art journal. If you would like to create your own art journal, you can watch this video tutorial for a coptic stitch binding journal with no cover using simple materials. Many people find that using their own hand-crafted journal brings a deeper satisfaction to visual journaling, however using a ready-made journal is fine. Visual journaling is not about making art, but rather opening and listening to your experience. If you do not want to use a journal, a 9"x12" piece of heavy watercolor paper will also work.

  • A silhouette image of an animal, approx. 6”-8”. Choose an animal (or more than one if you like) that you may feel a connection to, or that calls to you for whatever reason. You can find silhouettes online than you can print off. This animal will be representing you.

  • A piece of cardstock as big as the animal image. You will be tracing the animal image to the cardstock. Feel free to do this prior to the class, if desired.
  • Art materials. Acrylic or or craft paints will be used in the first part of the practice, but adaptations can be made. Also, any other art materials like watercolors, inks, etc. can be used. Don't forget your brushes and a good rag.

  • Collage items. Select images that appeal to you, or perhaps reflect your spiritual path, your teachers, your dreams, or images that represent seasons of your life. You may only end up using 3-4 images but it’s nice to have some choices readily available.

  • Waterproof pen. A fine-point Sharpie or Micron pen will work.

  • Markers and gel pens. Acrylic markers (like Posca markers), watercolor markers (like Tombow), gel pens, etc. A good white acrylic marker and/or gel pen is quite helpful.

  • Glue. Elmer’s glue or a good craft glue stick will work fine.

  • Old credit card or plastic scraper.
  • Masking tape.

  • Hair dryer. This is optional but may be helpful to help your work dry more quickly for the lesson.
