In celebration of our partnership with the Kansas City Art Institute, we are pleased to offer an innovative half day mindfulness event inviting opportunities for presence, playfulness, imagination and wonder. Participants are welcome to choose from a wide variety of teacher-led and self-guided experiences both traditional and extraordinary inside the Jannes Library and on the courtyard (indoor alternatives are available in case of inclement weather). 

We will be offering traditional practices designed for adults like guided meditation of course, but we will also be offering unique experiences to help adults rediscover a sense of childlike wonder, such as a mindful creativity practice, a deep rest-in with live music, a sensory adventure with a mindful bubblescape and a mindful eating practice with a free treat from our local Taste of Aloha Hawaiian shaved ice truck, mindful movement, and a mindful drumming circle. All experience levels are welcome. An opportunity for community connection will be offered at the end of the retreat.

  • When: Saturday September 14, 2024 from 10 am – 1 pm US Central Time

  • Where: Check in at the Jannes Library 3rd Floor Wellness Center any time between 9:30 and 10 am to get settled and pick up your FREE TREAT TICKET. Orientation starts at 10 am.

  • Cost: $40 (MAM members use discount code MEMBERS20 at checkout to receive a 20% discount). In accordance with our value of generosity, those with extreme financial need are welcome to use our "Pay What You Can" pass which you should purchase first before registering.

  • What to Bring: Once you register you will have access to your "passport" for the event, a booklet of suggestions, instructions, and resources and instructions for each mindfulness station. Additional instructions will be emailed to you before the event. Wear comfortable clothes you can move in. Bring your own meditation cushion and yoga mat if you have them (we have some you can borrow for indoor use, as well as folding chairs). Bring a refillable beverage container for water and/or hot tea indoors if you wish. If you want to lounge outdoors on the lawn, bring a blanket and/or lawn chair. You are also welcome to bring your own rhythm making object for the drumming circle, though we'll have some items on hand.
Pre-registration is required so we can plan accordingly. Photos and video may be taken at this event. Your registration and/or attendance at this event indicates your consent that your image and/or voice may be shared in our photos and videos. No refunds the day of the event or thereafter.
