The mind is an amazing and powerful construct. It can act as a force for good in our own lives and in the world, or it can be the source of great suffering. Fortunately, we can learn to become our own “mind coach” through the practice of slogans. Similarly to aphorisms, affirmations or mantras, the ancient practice of Lojong can help us clarify and reinforce beneficial attitudes and motivations, shed harmful mental habits, and transform challenging circumstances into wisdom. Like bodybuilding, we can train the muscles of the mind for greater strength, health and wellbeing.

“Like a bumper sticker or advertising taglines, slogans are short, punchy phrases that make an immediate impression. Like a catchy tune they are easy to remember, think about, and stay with.” - Norman Fischer, Training in Compassion

In this introductory series, participants will be guided in connecting with our deepest intentions for practice, skillfully selecting slogans that resonate, learning methods for establishing the spirit of the slogan in our minds, and utilizing strategies for embodying this wisdom in our daily lives. While we will acknowledge and honor the Tibetan Buddhist roots of this practice, your guide will be offering a secularized approach so as to be inclusive of the broad range of views and traditions that make up our community.
