Discover how our greatest challenges can become the most valuable source of our wisdom—and how we can transform our experience of suffering into the power of compassion for the benefit of others. Join psychologist Tracy Ochester, PsyD in a 4-week exploration of Joan Halifax's book, Standing at the Edge: Finding Freedom Where Fear and Courage Meet online via Zoom. Through her work as a humanitarian, a social activist, an anthropologist, and as a Buddhist teacher and her collaboration with neuroscientists, clinicians, and psychologists, Halifax explores how contemplative practice can be a vehicle for social transformation.

Topics and practices explored:
  • Identify the five psychological territories called Edge States
  • Explore how altruism, empathy, integrity, respect, and engagement can help us discover who we really are
  • Learn how we can respond to suffering, live our fullest lives, and remain open to the full spectrum of our human experience
  • Cultivate qualities of mind that invite optimal balance, even in turbulent times

When you register to join the book club and challenge, you are also making the formal commitment to yourself to read the book so that you may participate fully in the class and engage in the practices every day during the month of the challenge.

Deepen your Practice
Throughout the course you will receive regular emails from the teacher that include teachings from the book, practice tips, and answers to frequently asked questions related to the practice.

Share your Practice
Participants have the option to share their experiences by keeping a personal practice diary online. These posts will offer an honest peek into the life of fellow participants in the class who are engaged in practice, deconstructing many of the expectations we have for our own process.

**No refunds on or after the enrollment deadline. Passes expire one year from purchase. In the case of cancellation by the teacher for under-enrollment or any other reason, a full refund will be provided. All participants in our offerings must have a signed waiver on file with MAM.
