Cultivating beneficial inner qualities through practice is helpful not only for our personal happiness and wellbeing, but given the grave problems our world is facing, it may be crucial for our collective survival as a species. Join Tracy Ochester in an exploration of six character strengths, guided by the book by this name written by Norman Fischer and other resources. The Bodhisattva (awakened mind) Path is a Buddhist concept involving steps toward compassionate practice for the benefit of all beings - one such path is the development of certain “perfections”. We will be exploring this path from a secular perspective.
When and Where: Six Mondays 6-7:30 pm Central time starting May 1, 2023 online via Zoom (link will arrive with your registration confirmation email)
Book Reviews
“Fischer is best at explaining these key concepts without making them too abstract, a skill gained perhaps through all of his years of teaching. His work with the imagination is stellar…. Fischer doesn’t end in thought but finds living examples in our shared lives. ” — Larry Smith , New York Journal of Books
“A gentle, brilliant, and inspiring road map to a life of happiness and integrity for us individualistic and subversive thinkers who are weary of dogma and preaching.” — Kazuaki Tanahashi, author of Painting Peace: Art in a Time of Global Crisis
“With poetic gesture and prompts from the Buddha’s teachings, beloved spiritual teacher Norman Fischer leads us on a well-seasoned path toward a kind of imagining of our world that goes far beyond our minds. In fact, we might fall into our own hearts along the way.” — Zenju Earthlyn Manuel, author of The Way of Tenderness: Awakening Through Race, Sexuality, and Gender
