On Veterans’ Day weekend, we hope you might join us for a moving screening and community discussion of the 50-minute documentary On Black Mountain from the film series Veterans Journey Home produced by director Frederick Marx (Hoop Dreams, 1994) . Filmed in collaboration with Black Mountain Retreat Center, the documentary focuses on the experience of a group of 22 female Veterans through a four-month mindfulness, community-building, and self-compassion program as they learn to use the tools of meditation and sensory awareness to "shake off the ghosts of war" together. Participants will share in a post-viewing discussion facilitated by Angela Caruso-Yahne who completed the program and appears in the documentary, and fellow MAM teacher Tracy Ochester. Disclaimer/Trigger Warning: The film works with themes of moral injury, violence, and sexual trauma. There are no scenes of depiction or graphic description, but Veterans in the film discuss these topics. Adult language is present in the film.
